Saving Endangered Species September 17, 2007

The number of endangered species is rising.  This year alone they added 200 new animals and plants to the “Red List.” Corals were added to the list for the first time. There are 16,300 animals on the “Red List” that are threatened with extinction.  Even though extinction is a part of nature, humans are accelerating the process.  Extinction rates are now 100-1,000 times higher than before.

I think that we need to find a way to slow down the extinction process.  We need to start thinking more about how we use different plants and how we hunt different animals.  The way we use our resources affect the endangered species.  We need to be more resourceful and learn how to conserve our limited resources.  Recycling is a major way to reduce the number of trees we cut down; therefore reducing the number of animal’s habitats we destroy.

One Response to “Saving Endangered Species”

  1. Gilhaus Says:

“We need to start thinking more about how we use different plants and how we hunt different animals. The way we use our resources affect the endangered species.” The issue demands far more intervention than these solutions. For all humans to simply live as the average person lives in the United States, for instance, would destroy a lot of habitat and cause additional extinction. That being said, there are measures that could do some good which don’t involve drastic changes in lifestyles. (22/25, link, background)
